A local farmer, Fredrick George Leigh, affectionately known as Mike, celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday, August 2.
Mike was born in High Legh, Cheshire in 1915 and after leaving school he went straight into farming as an apprentice farmer learning to plough with horses.
Even at the age of 100 Mike is still very much at the helm of his family farm in Chester where he moved to in 1951 with his wife Sheila.
He has four children, Robin, Susan, Judith and Martin. Martin and Robin still run the family farm together with Mike, albeit with slightly more modern equipment.
Mike is also a proud grandfather of 11 and has seven great-grandchildren who helped him celebrate the momentous occasion with a family garden party and of course a card from the HRH the Queen.
