An 80-year-old woman from Chester has been killed in a road traffic collision on the A55 Southerly Bypass in Eccleston.

Police were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a Volvo heavy goods vehicle, which had been travelling in the direction of North Wales, at around 12.06am today (Monday, June 30).

The pedestrian - the 80-year-old woman - was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the HGV liaised with officers at the scene and has been released without charge.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, and are also keen to hear from anyone who may have driven past the area and seen a Vauxhall Cavalier parked with its bonnet up in the layby close to the River Dee.
