If you enjoy feeding the ducks on the River Dee, there will be thousands of them racing down river on Saturday.

But they probably won’t enjoy the bread as they are all yellow, pink or blue and plastic.

The ducks are racing to raise funds for the Countess of Chester Hospital Babygrow Appeal.

The race starts at 3pm but from 12-2pm, 70 corporate ducks will be available for viewing before the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Chester will judge the ‘best dressed duck’.

Many local companies have paid £200 to enter a duck in the race including: Big Storage, Chester Racecourse, Costco and Halliwell Jones.

Race organiser, Lesley Woodhead said: “Last year’s race was a great success and we raised an amazing £12,500. This year our target is £20,000.”

Yellow, pink and blue ‘Baby Ducks’ ducks will also be available to purchase at £2 each before the race and winning ducks will vie for prizes of vouchers from the Grosvenor Shopping Centre - first prize is £250.
