Chester christening invaded during city’s Roman Weekend

A VICAR’S Cross couple had some surprise guests at their son’s christening on Sunday.

First-time parents Gemma and Kirk MacPherson arranged 13-week-old son Finn Jack’s baptism shortly after his birth - without realising that Chester’s annual Roman Weekend would be in full swing during the ceremony.

The family left St John’s Church on Vicar’s Lane to be greeted by an army of ancient Roman soldiers in full military regalia.

Gemma said: “ None of the guests live in Chester. Our families came from Blackpool and then my uncle and his wife came all the way from Paris, so it was very nice for them to see all that.”
