EDDISBURY MP Stephen O’Brien made a special presentation to a local war hero.

Mr O’Brien described it as ‘a great honour’ to present Royal British Legion member John Walker with a legion county certificate of merit at this year’s Remembrance Day Service held in Bunbury.

Mr Walker was born in 1920 and served with The Durham Light Infantry from 1939 to 1946 in the 8th Army and was wounded three times.

After the Second World War, Mr Walker took a job as a gardener in Bunbury where he has lived ever since, taking an active role in the Royal British Legion Bunbury branch.

He also chaired the service and welfare committees and has been the regular poppy collector since 1948.

Mr O’Brien said: “I was honoured to be asked to present the certificate to John Walker with his remarkable war record and in tribute to his dedication to the Royal British Legion.

“The presentation to John could not be more richly deserved given that he has dedicated his life to the local community,” he added.
