CHESHIRE Fire and Rescue Service have premiered a new fire safety DVD aimed at highlighting key safety messages to young people.

The premiere of Escape to Safety was attended by firefighters and the stars of the DVD who took to the red carpet at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service headquarters to officially launch the new key stage 2 learning tool.

The DVD focuses on the dangers of fire, how to prevent fires and what to do in the event of a fire.

Supporting the DVD is a new dedicated section on the service website called Kidzone

Kidzone includes tests, games, videos, tours of appliances and a large amount of resources for both teachers and firefighters to download and supplement their lessons.

The pages are designed to be appealing to children who want to learn more about fire safety in a fun and informative manner.

Chief Fire Officer Steve McGuirk said: “Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are continually looking for new, exciting and informative ways to deliver key fire safety information. We feel by getting the message across at an early age it will help reduce children’s fascination of fire in later life.”

Firefighters at each station across Cheshire are being trained to deliver the DVD to key stage 2 children and this will be rolled out to schools in the forthcoming months.
