Eric Langton’s family and friends will gather in Chester to celebrate the life of the much-missed former Chester Chronicle editor-in-chief.

Mr Langton, described by former colleagues as a ‘legend’ of the journalism trade , passed away on August 4 following a brave battle with cancer. He was 67.

His funeral was held in Tuscany, where he had been living with his wife Olivia.

The family has also arranged an event in Chester where friends will be able to celebrate Mr Langton’s life.

It will be held at the Mill Hotel on Thursday, September 1, starting at 3pm.

Mr Langton, who hailed from Winsford , enjoyed a 40-year career in journalism, working for titles such as the Liverpool Echo and Daily Post, as well as editing the Flintshire Chronicle and Runcorn & Widnes Weekly News. He later became editor of The Chester Chronicle, then editor-in-chief of the newspaper and its associated titles in the Trinity Mirror Cheshire group.

He was a proud champion of the city of Chester, an active member of Chester Business Club who worked for both the council and the Chester Renaissance organisation after he left The Chronicle in 2011.

Olivia said her husband was ‘a wonderful human being – the best – and a great journalist and editor’.

Anyone wishing to go to the celebration event on September 1 should call David Faulkner on 01352 707707 to confirm their attendance.
