A POWER cut left more than 300 homes without electricity this afternoon (Friday, October 10).

The blackout left traffic lights, a supermarket petrol station and a fitness centre without power for over an hour, causing confusion and traffic delays.

The problems started when a fault in an underground cable caused a power cut at Liverpool Road, Chester just before 3.15pm.

The traffic lights at the junction of Liverpool Road and Mill Lane went off, along with the elecricity supply to Morrisons petrol station, Total Fitness and 327 properties in the area.

Elecricity company Scottish Power re-routed the supply and reconnected 150 homes by 3.50pm. Power to the rest of the homes and businesses, as well as the traffic lights, were back on by 4.20pm.

Spokesman for Scottish Power, Paul Ferguson, said: "We sent engineers out immediately to isolate the problem and reroute the supply. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
