A BUNBURY school girl is following in the footsteps of family friend and Olympic hero Beth Tweddle by coming second in a North West gymnastic competition.
Ella Burnett aged seven, of Darkie Meadow took her first step towards Elite Performance Gymnastics by coming second at the North West Compulsory Level 5 Competition at Birchwood, in Warrington.
The Bunbury Primary School pupil trains at Sandbach Gymnastics Club for more than 15 hours a week in the term-time and, in the holidays, does more than 23 hours a week.
She first started gymnastics when she was aged five, and her talent was quickly spotted and she went from just one hour a week to several days a week within months. Friend Beth Tweddle has been encouraging her all the way.
Ella’s coach Tracy Cooper has recently passed her High Performance Coaching exam and is set to keep young Ella on track.
The club offers gymnastics from beginner to international standard for girls and boys aged four to 16. The club was launched in 1991 and caters for more than 400 children every week. The club has been represented at international level in Belgium, Sweden, Holland, USA, Australia, Hungary, Romania and Italy.
