HAVE your say on a proposed Travellers’ site in Ship Street, Frodsham, by logging on to the internet.

Vale Royal Borough Council is today (Friday) launching an online consultation about potential sites for gypsy and travellers across the borough.

The period of consultation will close on Friday, October 17.

The council has identified the need for between 17 and 23 permanent pitches for gypsies and Travellers across the borough, between now and 2011.

Four sites have been earmarked by outside consultants as being potentially suitable for a permanent site. They are Ship Street, Frodsham; New Road, Winsford; Bradford Road, Winsford; and Chester Road, Sandiway.

Homeowners on Ship Street and nearby roads reacted angrily after The Chronicle revealed the council was considering the area for a permanent site for Travellers, fearing for their security, privacy and that house prices will be affected.

Councillors and Travellers groups say there is a need for a permanent site in the borough so that families are not forced to live on illegal sites.

The consultation will give residents, businesses and interested parties the opportunity to express their opinions on the four sites

Cllr John Turnbull, Lead Councillor for Community Safeguards, said: “We are seeking views not only on these sites, but also on any other locations that people feel could meet the criteria. This is a very early stage in the process and these locations are not definite.

“As well as the online consultation, we will also be holding exhibitions and targeted consultations over the summer and early autumn. Everyone will have the chance to express their views and inform the decision.”

People who wish to take part in the online consultation can do so by logging on to www.valeroyal.gov.uk and clicking on the link from the home page. The consultation will available online from Friday July 18.
