CHESHIRE County Council Highways says engineers are working full time on the A51 road works and hope to finish ahead of schedule.
This comes as drivers encountered a frustrat- ing bank holiday week- end with long queues at the A54 and A49 junction.
The situation was exasperated by extra traffic from the Oulton Park Gold Cup.
Tarporley Parish Council clerk John Macdonald wrote to Mike Young, design team leader at Cheshire County Council High- ways, expressing his experience of the traffic “mess” on Saturday, August 23.
A Cheshire County Council spokesman said: “We are doing our best to get the work done. Unfortunately even on weekends and at night we cannot open the road up because there are different surface levels.
“We are working both week days and weekends. But there are limited hours the work can be done, due to noise restrictions.
“Week days they work 8am to 7pm and at weekends they can work from 9am to 7pm.
“We hope that the works will finish ahead of schedule.”
