CONCERNED villagers will gather at a public meeting because they feel besieged by traveller sites.

Plans have been submitted for 10 caravans in the green belt at The Street, Hoole Village, and to double the size of an existing site in Plemstall Lane, Mickle Trafford.

Other sites have been established in neighbouring Wimbolds Trafford, Morley Bridge, Elton and Helsby.

The meeting takes place at Mickle Trafford Primary School on Wednesday next week at 7pm.

Agent Philip Brown, who supports the retrospective application in Hoole Village, argues it should be allowed in the Green Belt because the council is providing insufficient traveller sites.

This is denied by the local authority but locals fear it as a ‘loophole’ that will be exploited.

Five families – including about 15 children – moved on to the field earlier this year.

Hardcore was laid down but an injunction was obtained by Cheshire West and Chester Council to prevent further work.

Five caravans already at the Plemstall Lane site have temporary permission until 2011. But in the last few days an application has been lodged to accommodate another five caravans, with associated cess pool and utility block.

It is partly retrospective as the hard-standing area has already been laid.

Cllr Freda Mottram, chairman of Mickle Trafford Parish Council, said: “Our objection is that normally these people don’t follow the code of procedure that everybody else has to follow.”

Council spokesman Ian Callister said there were 30 objections to the Hoole Village application which will be determined by council officers next month unless it is called in by members.

He said the council had approved seven travellers’ pitches, in line with the requirement for 2006-2011.
