A RESIDENT claims his quality of life has been 'reduced to zero' since Middlewich's new amphitheatre has opened.
Now Andrew Weatherby, whose flat overlooks the Wheelock Street social area, has called on Middlewich Town Council to take action.
He told the Chronicle: 'In the last couple of weeks when it's been cold and wet things have been a bit easier, but the level of anti-social behaviour here over the last few months has made this into a nasty area.
'I wouldn't want my wife to walk even the short distance to Tesco Express at night.'
He claimed alcohol was a major problem at night, but said he believes there are other aggravating factors.
He said 'Drinking causes a lot of the problems but I have also seen people doing drugs out there.
'It's not only kids, either. I've seen adults out there, drinking and making people feel very uncomfortable.
'It's got to a point where I can't invite my young relatives over for fear of what might happen at night. It's really not a nice place.'
The council promised to look into the issue and to contact Middlewich police to find a solution.
Police Community Support Officer Roger Need said: 'We do get people drinking down there and we will continue to police the area. But in our experience these are usually youngsters milling about as this is somewhere they can go.'
