ARTISTS throughout Runcorn and Widnes are being urged to aim high for this year's Comme Ca Art Prize and the chance of winning £10,000.

Now in its second year, the competition brings art, artists and galleries associated with the North of England to a wider audience.

Artists cannot enter their own work into the competition but can be nominated by a member of the public.

This year's prize is supported by the North West Regional Development Agency, property company Urban Splash and recruitment firm Xceli.

The closing date for entries is August 27 and the winner will be selected from a shortlist of artists, whose work will be exhibited at Urban Splash's Old Haymarket building in Liverpool from November 5.

This year, the prize will be part of the Liverpool Biennial Independents 04. The winning artist will be announced at the closing celebration for the Biennial on November 25.

Comme Ca Art director Claire Turner said she was delighted to launch the prize for a second year.

'The prize has been so well received by the art community and galleries,' she said. 'It has certainly helped those working and exhibiting in the North enjoy a wider profile and we hope to see entries from Runcorn and Widnes artists this year.'
