A COUPLE who began selling their homemade jam in Ellesmere Port’s indoor market are celebrating their product being launched in Tesco.

In the past year, Andrew and Sajmira Cairns’s unique range of fruit preserves made from Albanian-born Sajmira’s mother’s secret recipe have proved a huge success in supermarkets across the UK, including Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.

And this September Mammy Jamias is to launch on the shelves of Tesco, as the supermarket giant has picked up the product for sale in 250 of its stores.

After the success of their jam sales in Ellesmere Port, Mr and Mrs Cairns, of Eastham, Wirral, collected questionnaires to see what people thought, and received positive feedback.

They then sent off samples to supermarkets and were invited to London to pitch to the preserves head buyer for Sainsbury’s.

Before long their premium jam, which consists of unique flavours including apple and rhubarb, was being stocked in hundreds of stores nationwide.

Mr Cairns said: “We are really excited about the jam being launched in Tesco. It’s been a great year for us.

“We sold more than 100,000 jars in our first year of trading from just 600 when we first started trading in Ellesmere Port.

“We’ve had interest from supermarkets abroad and hopefully we may be able to start exporting soon.”

“The support we’ve had from local people in Ellesmere Port has been fantastic.”
