A TOP dog grooming expert is celebrating after collecting awards in this year’s British Dog Grooming Championship.
Mike Wildman, who runs cLassie Grooming on Brook Street, Chester, won the Best Advanced Groomer at the national tournament, hosted by the Pet Care Trust at the Kennel Club in Coventry.
There was further success as Mike also took home the Special Award for Best Technique for the second year running.
In addition, Mike was named as the third best groomer of the year.
Mike said: “There was a record entry of competitors, about 160 turned up.
“It was my first competition last year and this year I have made the step up to the top class.
“I’m really proud to have competed in it, to be named third overall is quite a big honour. It’s a great thing for the business and great for the city.”
Mike originally set up cLassie Grooming in Ellesmere Port before moving the business to Chester in 2009.
He said: “The business is going from strength to strength. We have a part-time staff member – Joanne Tillsmith – who competed in the contest for the first time.
“We have done so well and have hosted parties to raise money for Animal Rescue.
“The awards have raised the profile of the business and it has really opened some doors for me.
“It’s lucky enough the dogs in the competition were so well behaved!
“I’d like to thank Kim Bowers and Sandy Platt for allowing me to groom their beautiful dogs, without which this honour would not have been possible.”
