BUSINESSES across Cheshire will benefit from a new on-line messaging system launched by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Business owners will be able to subscribe to the service free of charge and receive regular updates and information on a range of subjects including major incidents occurring near their business premises, along with information on procedures and prosecutions via a text message.
The system will mean the service can warn people where incidents are taking place and also give out safety advice and appropriate information.
It will also allow businesses to be aware of the hazards that can occur within companies that carry similar risks, for example chemical companies, joiners’ and builders’ yards etc, and help them in ensuring compliance with regulations and safety procedures.
A spokesperson said: “While we work closely with the media at these times to keep people informed it is important that we do everything we can to let people know what is going on.
“This new message broadcasting service provides us with a fast and efficient way to provide basic updates and advice directly to the county’s business community.
“At times of major emergencies providing timely information and advice can help to protect and reassure our local communities which include small, medium and large enterprises. “
Caroline Jones, e-communications manager for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It is important that we make best use of the technology available and I hope businesses of all sizes will take a couple of minutes to register with the service.”
To register, firms can complete an online form at the website www.cheshirefire.gov.uk.
Subscribers can register up to three post codes, for example the area in which they have their business premises and areas in which similar companies are located.
There is no cost for registering for the service or receiving the alerts and if people do not have internet access they can call 01606 868657.
