Batten down the hatches, Cheshire West could be hit with torrential rain and thunderstorms later today (August 13) and tomorrow.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of rain for the region, saying it is likely the downpours will be 'persistent and heavy'.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "There is the potential for torrential rain in places.

"The public should be aware of a significant risk of localised disruption due to surface water flooding.

"Lightning and hail are likely to be additional hazards.

"There is also a risk of thunder."

Motorists are advised to take extra care due to potentially hazardous conditions on the road.
