Chester Mystery Plays

The medieval Chester Mystery Plays are produced in the city only once every five years and the 2023 cycle will be presented in the magnificent nave of Chester Cathedral from June 28 -July 15. Directed by John Young with music by Matt Baker, a large community cast drawn from Chester, the North West and North Wales tell the iconic Bible stories as if they were set in Cheshire’s county town. The Chester Mystery Plays were originally written in the 14th century and presented by the city's Freemen and Guilds on pageant wagons.
