A group of musical University of Chester graduates is encouraging music lovers everywhere to visit Chester over the coming weeks to be part of the city’s annual charity music festival, in aid of Oxfam.

Bands and artists, many of whom are University of Chester alumni or current students, will be performing across the city as part of the popular Oxjam Chester Takeover festival.

The month-long festival runs throughout October with hundreds of events throughout the UK - all organised by volunteers who know and love their local music scene - aiming to raise funds for Oxfam.

Chester has been proudly raising funds as well as some musical talent for the charity for the past few years.

Already, the Oxjam Chester Takeover team has already organised and taken part in a series of fundraising events, which has included a Bandstand Takeover and a 24-hour Big Busk, which together raised over £1,500 for Oxfam.

The entertaining events are set to continue, with 909090 on Thursday, October 8, at Alexander’s Live - an event which will see Ben Stafford, a popular music performance graduate of the university, taking onlookers on the ultimate nostalgia trip when he attempts to perform 90, 1990s song in 90 minutes.

There will also be a 90s game show for revellers to take part in as well performances from supporting acts.

On Friday, October 16 at Telford’s Warehouse, The Oxjam Official Festival Launch Night will feature performances from The Galactic Funk Militia, Broken 3 Ways and Lyons & La Zel. Free before 9pm, £4 afterwards, donations encouraged.

The main festival takes place on Saturday, October 17, at several venues across Chester starting at Alexander’s from 2pm, followed by The Commercial, Ye Olde Kings Head and The Lock Keeper.
