North Wales Jazz return to the Royal British Legion at Llay, near Wrexham, on Tuesday, November 24, with the Manchester-based Steve Oakes Quintet, featuring Ed Kainyek on sax.

This well-rehearsed outfit, led by consummate jazz guitarist Steve Oakes, will be playing an eclectic mixture of modern jazz comprising be-bop, latin jazz, funk, and contemporary takes on standards with influences ranging from John Coltrane to Pat Metheny and Chick Corea.

A frequent performer at the Wirral International Guitar Festival, Steve Oakes will be joined by Sierra Leone-born Ed Kainyek on sax.

Ed, whose earthy and expressive style evokes players like Grover Washington Jr and Dexter Gordon, is already a popular figure with North Wales Jazz audiences after having brought his own band to the area, while John Ellis on keyboards, Gavin Barras on the double bass and Tim Franks on drums will be familiar faces to jazz audiences and festival goers across the region.

The music commences at 8.30pm and admission is £6.50, concessions £5.50, school children £3. Further information is available from North Wales Jazz on 01745 812260 and at www.northwalesjazz.org.uk.
