Rock legend Ian Hunter will play a warm-up gig in Wrexham before a headlining a festival at the end of January.

The Mott the Hoople hero brings his Rant Band to William Aston Hall, Glyndwr University, on Saturday, January 30.

The gig is one of only two warm-up shows Hunter will play before headlining the Giants of Rock festival in Minehead the following day.

Hunter recently lost two of his great old allies.

David Bowie, who died earlier this month, was a long-time fan of Hunter's band Mott the Hoople and famously wrote and produced their 1972 hit single All the Young Dudes, a song which transformed the glam group's career.

Paying tribute to the late star, Hunter said: “David wrote some wonderful songs. I was lucky enough to sing one of them – and it changed my life."

While fans were still mourning Bowie's passing, Mott drummer and founding member Dale 'Buffin' Griffin died following a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was 67, two years younger than Bowie.

At 76, Hunter is the elder statesman of the three and has a loyal following.

He will play songs from his vast back catalogue in Wrexham on January 30.
