A star of the hit ITV drama series Downton Abbey is at two Cheshire schools today (Thursday, November 26).

The veteran TV, film and stage actor Jim Carter - better known as butler Mr Carson - hosts An Evening With Carson at Bishop Heber High School in Malpas at 8pm.

The day after the final episode of the last ever series of the acclaimed show was screened to nationwide TV audiences, Shocklach Oviatt CE Primary School confirmed that Mr Carter was also going to pay a visit to their school.

Jim Carter is famous for screen and theatre roles. His film credits include The Golden Compass, Brassed Off and Shakespeare in Love. His many television credits include Cracker, Dalziel and Pascoe, Cranford and Midsomer Murders.

He is best known for his role in Downton Abbey playing Mr Carson which has earned him four nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Jane Hopkins, headteacher at Shocklach Primary School, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Jim Carter is coming to support both our school and the local community.

“He is a brilliant actor and a very funny man. I am sure he will be a huge hit with the audience. We are delighted that tickets are now on sale and expect them to sell very quickly indeed.”

VIP tickets will allow guests access to an exclusive champagne reception where they can meet and talk with the actor in person before the show while enjoying some delicious bubbles, canapés and a light supper. VIP tickets cost £75 and also include the best seats available for the 8pm show.
