With the dark nights drawing in, it's almost time to enjoy bonfires and fireworks.

The safest way to do so, especially with children, is to go to an organised display. There are lots to choose from around Chester and Ellesmere Port and even further afield if you fancy a drive.

Saturday, October 29:

Northwich:Anderton Boat Lift, CW9 6FW - Watch the magical fireworks display over the River Weaver. There will be food, a bar and great entertainment. Gates open at 6.30pm and the display begins at 8pm. Pre event purchase price: Adults £6, concessions £5, children £4, family £17. Gate prices: Adults £8, concessions £7, children £6, family £23. Friday, November 4:

Ellesmere Port:Ellesmere Port and District Lions Club community firework spectacular at Whitby Park. Gates open at 4.30pm, display starts at 7.30pm. Funfair and food outlets. Entrance is by bucket collection for local charities. This is an alcohol free event. Alcohol will not be allowed or available on the night.

Elton: 1st Ince and Elton Scout Group Bonfire and Fireworks Spectacular returns for its 6th year to bring you an organised firework display, refreshments and an impressive bonfire. Gates open at 6.45pm, bonfire will be lit at 7pm with the first rocket being scheduled for 7.30pm.

Saturday, November 5:

Chester: Chester Lions Firework Fun Night at Chester Racecourse , CH1 2LY. Funfair, food, and live music. Toddler’s fireworks 6.45pm, main display 7.30pm. Tickets available at the gate for £5 per person, children under seven are free.

Dodleston: Fireworks at Chester Lakes, Church Road, Dodleston, Chester, CH4 9LQ. Bonfire and fireworks display, licensed bar, live rock band, snacks & refreshments, rides/amusements. Gates Open 5pm, bonfire lit at 6.45pm, firework display 7.15pm.
Adults £6, children (5-12) £3, under 5s FRE. Free parking.

Vicars Cross: The Centurion Community Pub Bonfire Night Party 6.30pm to 9.00pm. Hot pot supper, fireworks and bonfire starting approx 6.45pm.

Oulton Park: Neil Howard Stage Rally with a bonfire and spectacular firework display to follow. Oulton Park, Little Budworth, Tarporley, Cheshire CW6 9BW.

Christleton: The Plough Inn, Plough Lane, CH3 7PT. From the guys who brought you 'The Crocky' fireworks display. Fireworks, music, lasers, bar and refreshments. Gates open at 6pm, fireworks start at 7.30pm. Adults £5, children £3. Call 01244 336096 for more details.

Mickle Trafford: The Shrewsbury Arms, Warrington Road, Chester CH2 4EB are hosting a fireworks display to raise funds for Mickle Trafford Village School. There'll be a BBQ, hot drinks, raffle and more. Tickets are £2.50 individually or £10 per family of four (larger families can pay £2 for additional tickets).

Wirral: The Refreshment Rooms, Rockferry CH42 1LS. FREE organised Beach Bonfire party, fireworks and DJ from 7.30pm. Outside bar, burgers and hot dogs.

Tarporley: Annual bonfire and firework display, proceeds raised helping 1st Tarporley Scouts Group. Gates open 6pm, bonfire lit at 6.30pm, fireworks at 7pm. Adults £5, children £2.50. Refreshments available.
*Note the change of venue - this year's event will be in the field to the south of St Helen's Church. Access is through a farm gate on the lane which leads to the Lych Gate (roughly opposite Molly Mop).

Cholmondeley: Cholmondeley Arms, Wrenbury Road, SY14 8HN. Live music, pop-up gin bar, barbecue, bonfire and fireworks. Starts at 6.30pm. Free entrance. for more details call 01829 720300

Winsford: The Rotary Club of Winsford and Middlewich are organising a display in aid of local charities and organisations. Find it at Barton Stadium, Winsford, CW7 3AE. Gates open at 6pm, admission costs £6 for adults, £3 for children or a family ticket is £15.

Wirral and Liverpool: Wirral and Liverpool are joining forces to host a special event on the River Mersey for this year’s bonfire night. The River of Light, a spectacular waterfront display that will see a fireworks show to remember. No tickets required, this is a free event for all. The build-up to the River of Light will start from 4pm with street entertainment from drummers and fire performers. Sunday, November 6:

Saughall: Saughall Colts JFC annual bonfire and fireworks display at the Greyhound Inn, Saughall, CH1 6BJ. As well as the bonfire (lit at 6.30pm) and firework display (starting at 7pm), there's a bar, BBQ and stalls. Gates open at 6pm, entry £3, under 5s free.

Mickle Trafford: The Chester Fields Country Pub and Restaurant, CH2 4JR. Annual bonfire and fireworks display. Tickets available now - £10 per adult and £5 per child. If you book a table in the restaurant between 3pm and 5pm and after 6.15pm you will receive 50% of your ticket price back off your final bill. (Ts and Cs: minimum of two courses must be purchased)
Firework display starts at 6pm. Hot food and drinks available outside for non diners. Competition for the best guy.
