Demand for tickets to the opening of the Chester Races season has been high, according to the event’s organisers.

Chester Race Company says Ladies Day on Thursday, May 7 and City Day on Friday, May 8, are close to selling out.

Tickets for the opening of the Boodles May Festival on Wednesday, May 6, Chester Cup Day, are currently available for all areas on Chester Cup Day.

Racegoers returning to the Roodee in May can look forward to a number of improvements at the course, including a refurbishment of the County Stand and Long Room which features new glass panelling to the roof, new bars, flooring and toilets.

The champagne garden and bar is also undergoing a transformation with a new bar and interior, a champagne chilling room to keep stock cooled and three champagne terraces adjacent to the parade ring.

The champagne terraces are partially enclosed by glass panels with individual seating, offering racegoers a chance to sip on champagne as they view the horses on their way to the parade ring.

Chester Race Company chief executive Richard Thomas said: “The Boodles May Festival is our showcase event of the year and these important improvements to facilities at the course help to ensure we enhance the customer experience wherever possible.”
