WEAVER Valley Cycling Club held their annual training trip to Llanberis at the weekend.
Some 24 riders left Moss Farm for Chester, Mold and up the Rainbow climb, Ruthin, Denbigh and the moors, Sportsman's Pass which includes a 10-mile climb, Betwys Coed, Capel Curig and Bethesda to Llanberis.
Sunday morning brought snow, but did not deter any of the 24 who elected for another route and three of them opted to do a further 21 miles. It was a 180-mile round trip.
Giles Bett will be the only Weaver Valley entrant in the season opener, the 50-mile Eddy Soens Handicap on the motor racing circuit at Aintree at the weekend.
He can expect a hard race as all the top teams will be represented, most having been in Australia and Malaysia competing in races over there. A 30mph average is not unusual. The club run leaves the Iron Bridge, Castle, on Sunday at 9.30am and newcomers are welcome.
