STUDENTS from Chester represented their county at the English Schools Cross Country Championships.

They went up against teams from across the rest of the country at Catton Hall, Walton-on-Trent, Derbyshire.

Katie Clarke (Tarporley High School) earned the Cheshire junior girls team ninth position after securing the all-important sixth counting position with 155th place in a time of 12:38.

Tarporley High’s Evan Roberts (189th in 16:51), Bishops’ High pupil Cameron Weaver (220th in 17:06) and Chester King’s School student Matthew Willis (17th in 15:24) were part of the Cheshire junior boys squad which finished 19th in the 41-strong team competition.

Matthew Sheen, who lives in Tarporley, finished fourth with a time of 19:33 in the Intermediate Boys race.

Tarporley High student Amy Hinchly posted 51st position in a time of 14:32 in the Intermediate Girls race to help earn Cheshire 12th spot in the team event.

And Upton High student Tessa McCormick was 14th in the senior girls race and was second scoring counter, helping earn Cheshire eighth team position.

Issy Clarke of West Cheshire AC finished fourth overall in the Year 7 Cheshire v Merseyside schools cross country match at Whitby Park, Ellesmere Port.

Clarke was supported by club-mate Beth McMahon (26th) as Cheshire posted 71 points, five points adrift of Merseyside. Cheshire’s boys team lost 73-64 against Merseyside.
