CAPENHURST RUFC has agreed a £1,000 sponsorship deal with Sellafield Ltd.
The company that operates the Capenhurst decommissioning site on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority offered the money which helped the club supply its first team with new kit for the 2008-9 season.
Phil Malem, site head at Capenhurst where Sellafield is due to complete its clean-up operation by 2009, said: “Our site is one of the longest-established industrial works in the area and we are privileged to have had similarly long-standing positive links with our neighbours.
“As we move towards building a bright future for our site beyond our clean-up programme, we remain committed to supporting the local community and we’re happy to be sponsoring Capenhurst RUFC this season.”
Terry Grundy, president of the rugby club, said: “Even though we opened the season with a narrow defeat, we’re extremely grateful for Sellafield Ltd’s sponsorship and hope to build on that to achieve greater success as we head towards Christmas and into the New Year.”
