HOWIE Mainwaring wowed the Silverstone crowd at the weekend with a stunning ride that saw him storm from 18th to lead the National Superstock 1,000 Championship race.
Although the 24-year-old from Frodsham eventually had to settle for a third-placed finish, he was still delighted to set the fastest lap and make it on to the podium for the fourth time this season.
MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider Mainwaring, who is fifth in the championship standings going into the final race of the year at Brands Hatch, said: “That was a brilliant race. I was on the pace from the first lap so I just tried to pull the pin and go with the leaders.
“Qualifying was a struggle but I woke up for the race and stuck my elbows out.
“The bike felt fantastic. To get a podium and the fastest lap from 18th on the grid is a great result.”
Jenny Tinmouth’s impressive end-of-season form continued at Silverstone. The Chester-born 33-year-old finished 15th in her first British Supersport Championship race and a thrilling 12th in her second.
