MOTORSPORT fans will be treated to an extra helping of British Superbike Championship racing at Oulton Park this weekend.
In addition to the two races on Bank Holiday Monday, there will also be a race on Sunday to make up for the one which was postponed due to the wet weather at Brands Hatch last month.
It means fans at the Cheshire circuit will be treated to even more high-speed action than usual.
Noriyuki Haga, the former World Superbike Championship contender, returns to Oulton Park as he targets his first BSB podium with the championship-winning Swan Yamaha team.
Haga has raced at Oulton Park as a wildcard in the past. The one-round appearance has become iconic after he spectacularly rode through the middle of a fireball created on the warm-up lap by Vince Whittle’s crashed machine.
Now ‘Nitro Nori’ will be aiming to turn up the heat again this weekend.
He said: “My focus for Oulton Park is to push as hard as I can. I haven’t raced at the circuit since 2004 so I need a bit of a reminder when we get there but I am not worried.
“I think we can be faster there and I will be fighting. I want to be winning.”
Padgetts Honda’s Ian Lowry leads the championship standings after a maiden win at Thruxton. He is aiming to continue the charge over the weekend as Josh Brookes, Jon Kirkham and Tommy Hill are all within less than 10 points of the standings leader.
A host of local riders will also be in action this weekend on their ‘home’ circuit, including Chester-born Superbike star Jenny Tinmouth. In the support classes, Frodsham’s Howie Mainwaring and Duddon’s Mike Edwards will compete in the National Superstock 1,000 Championship while Backford’s Joe Francis races in the British Motostar Championship.
