MARTIAL ARTS: MORE than 70 students of tae kwon-do in Chester and Wirral competed in the anniversary event to mark 20 years of the TAGB last week, and some returned with medals.

Two teams collected gold medals, John Windrum, 11, and 10-year-old Cameron Young, and Ben Jones, 24, Steven Atkinson, 27, Paul Clubbe, 30, and Ray Burrows, 40.

Amy and Chloe Truesdale picked up silver medals, as did Mike Mason, 14, and eight-year-old John Spencer.

The men's black-belt team collected third place in a division which included 41 teams. The Neo Ju Jitsu Club is now running at the Heavy Hitters Gym in Hoole Road, Chester, and costs £4 a session under chief instructor and first-dan black belt Greg Mawson, who can be contacted on 07790755392. A new martial arts club opens its door in Chester today. The Caldy Valley Traditional Karate Club operates from Caldy Valley Neighbourhood Centre under Paul McAvoy, 30, who began learning the martial art at the age of seven.
