PLAYERS who have been let go or are not getting a game are being offered the opportunity to join a newly-formed team with professional coaches – including former Everton star Barry Horne.

FC Porto Ellesmere was created by Little Sutton’s Colin Berry and Capenhurst’s Mike Dodd, two fathers who became disillusioned with the traditional approach to youth football.

In a bid to give more youngsters an opportunity to get a game, they set up the club, and are now enlisting the help of professional coaches, including Horne, to train the team.

Colin said: “When you are starting out it is not about winning, it’s about playing and learning the game.

“Some players are late developers but they don’t get the chance.”

FC Porto Ellesmere are still taking on players. They run under 8s and U9s teams and train at Sutton High School and at the Epic.
