Vauxhall Motors 2 Gloucester City 1

CARL Macauley’s Motors stopped a Gloucester comeback in its tracks – thanks to their in-form strikers.

Vauxhall needed only three minutes to restore their lead after the struggling visitors had equalised just before the hour.

Obi Anoruo’s 11th goal of the season proved decisive with fellow striker Leighton McGivern having earlier continued his useful scoring run.

Their clinical finishing made all the difference in an even contest.

Keeper Scott Tynan made his comeback from an horrific injury sustained in the FA Cup tie against Hartlepool in November.

He began an impressive return by parrying a 14th-minute Lewis Pountney shot with defender Andy Taylor clearing. Their intervention was rewarded within a minute as Lee Dames played in the lively McGivern, who shrugged off a challenge on the edge of the area to rifle his third goal in four games.

There was a let-off for Vauxhall when Neil Prince lost possession in a dangerous position but with only Tynan to beat, Darren Edwards miskicked.

Tynan was soon called upon to tip over a Tom Webb piledriver.

Macauley’s men responded with headers by Josh Wilson and Taylor from Prince corners but Gloucester keeper Kevin Sawyer was equal to both.

After the interval, Tynan produced a brilliant double save from Webb and Edwards but was finally beaten by the latter’s close-range finish.

The 59th-minute leveller was, however, wiped out when Vauxhall man-of-the-match Tom Grice burst through for Anorou to finish.
