Gap Connah's Quay Nomads boss Mark McGregor says he is hopeful of tying up a deal for experienced full-back Kevin McIntyre.

The 36-year-old former Chester FC defender has been on trial with Nomads during pre-season and has impressed club boss McGregor.

A seasoned veteran with more than 500 senior games under his belt, the former Shrewsbury Town and Doncaster Rovers man finished last season at the Swansway Chester Stadium but was released by Blues manager Steve Burr at the end of the campaign.

If he does pen a deal with McGregor's men he will become the third ex-Chester FC player to join the club this summer following the arrival of former Blues skipper George Horan and striker Jamie Rainford, who had an unsuccessful spell with the club during the 2011/12 season.

McIntyre played for the Nomads in a 4-1 friendly win over Buckley Town at the University of Chester’s 3G pitch on Friday, and McGregor is hopeful of keeping the Liverpudlian.

“Kevin is an experienced player and has done well since he has come in and would be a great addition to the team for next season,” said the Nomads boss.

“Hopefully we can sort a deal out and keep him here for next season as his experience will be a massive asset for us.”

A brace from Jay Colbeck and strikes from Gary Roberts and Rainford secured a convincing triumph over Tom Taylor’s men.

Rainford opened the scoring in the first period, converting a Paul Mooney pass before the former set up Roberts to double the advantage.

It was 3-0 soon after when he latched on to a Rainford pass to coolly slot home.

A flurry of substitutions in the second half affected the flow of the game and the Bucks began to grow in stature, and they managed to reduce the arrears early on.

But Colbeck rounded off the scoring soon after to claim his second of the evening and secure the triumph for McGregor’s men.

“After not seeing too much of the ball against  the European sides (Dinamo Bucharest and Ludogorets Razgrad), it was nice to see some more of the ball,” said McGregor.

“We played some good stuff and made use of the flat surface. It was a good workout.

“With the players we have this season, the likes of George (Horan) and Kyle (Parle) joining us, I think we’ll be a force in the league  and things are coming along nicely.”

Nomads are next in action on Saturday when they take on Evo-Stik Division One North side Celtic Nation at the Deeside Stadium (2.30pm).
