FOR the second year running the Mid Cheshire FA Senior Cup went outside the district as the Congleton inscription followed that of Alsager Town on the Trophy.

They dominated last Tuesday's final with ex-Witton men Mark Bailey and Andy Hurst in their ranks.

Bailey and Hirst were part of the underdog Witton team that beat Stalybridge in the 2006 County Cup final.

The Bears truly lived up to their nickname and constantly worried and harassed their prey.

They took the lead on nine minutes, just after Mark Peers had created and missed a glorious chance for Albion. Jordan Johnson crashed home a 25-yard free kick off the underside off the bar.

Chris Smith and John McAllister added more surprises in the final 10 minutes.

Scott Williams, ex-Albion and Winsford United, was also in the jubilant Congleton team who probably benefited from Witton's pre-occupation with bigger things.

ALBION: Kennedy; Hockenhull, Pritchard, Barras, Brownhill; Peers, Brown, Clegg, Connors; Moseley, Frost (Proffitt 45).

Attendance: 300.

Star Man: Tony Barras emerged with professional pride intact.

Next Best: Mark Peers. Team Rating: 2.

Match Rating: 2.
