Chester FC boss Jon McCarthy offered an honest assessment of his side's performance in the 3-1 home defeat to Maidstone United.

Goals from Anthony Acheampong, Ben Greenhalgh and Alex Flisher handed the Stones all three points after James Alabi had levelled towards the end of the first half for Chester.

But the Blues were way off the standard they set in Tuesday night's 3-0 home success over Dagenham & Redbridge, something which left boss McCarthy frustrated.

Maidstone make it 3-1

"We watched them a lot but we got something wrong, definitely," said McCarthy.

"That performance was really disappointing. Everybody has seen it, everybody has watched it and it wasn't very good.

"But I back my players. I've got good players who want to work hard, want to learn and want to move on. We'll look at all the reasons, watch the game back again and try and come up with some answers."
