Steve Burr has no interest in leaving Chester FC with the manager reiterating his excitement at the potential of the fan-owned club.

Eastleigh made an approach for the ex-Kidderminster Harriers boss last week but the Blues told them in no uncertain terms the 55-year-old was not available.

Spitfires owner Stewart Donald underwrites one of the division's biggest budgets and the position attracted some high-profile candidtates.

However, Burr told The Chronicle he welcomed the board's decision to turn down the request for permission to sound him out about replacing Richard Hill, who resigned on September 23.

Having failed with their approach for the 55-year-old, Eastleigh confirmed the appointment of caretaker Chris Todd as their new manager late last week.

Burr, who signed a new contract in March that runs until the end of the next season , believes Chester have the scope to challenge for promotion to the Football League themselves in time.

He said: "The club told me about the approach from Eastleigh and told me it was going to be turned down and I was more than happy with that.

"I love being at Chester and I love the people I work with here. The challenge here is to make us stronger again this year and that's what we are working to do because the potential here is huge.

"Obviously there are clubs in the division with much bigger budgets like Eastleigh and Forest Green who can go out and strengthen their squads.

"The challenge we have is to work with what we have and to help the players improve.

"It's about us getting the best out of what we have and and that's a challenge I relished when I came here and still relish."

Burr succeeded Neil Young as Chester manager in January 2014 not long after his shock sacking from Kidderminster, where he had been in charge for four years.

He came close to leading the Harriers into the Football League and previously managed Nuneaton Borough, Hucknall Town, Northwich Victoria and Stalybridge Celtic.
