Entertaining stuff
A team full of trialists and young players, little could have been expected from the clash but it was an interesting workout.
James Akintunde’s hat-trick was the talking point and some decent contributions from ex-Crewe Alex man James Baillie. Plenty of food for thought for Jon McCarthy as Nantwich looms on Tuesday.
Full-time: Marine 3 Chester 5
A decent workout and McCarthy will no doubt have plenty to think about with regards to hat-trick hero Akintunde.
Great finish, terrible defending
Foley smashes home from 18 yards but awful defending to allow Bellew to find him.
Real chance
Byrne breaks into the area and fires at Jones and Heath produces a superb tackle to deny a follow up.
Off the post!
Chester trialist Mike Muscat feeds ball through to Elliot Nevitt whose low shot cannons back off the bottom right-hand post. 76mins
MISSED! Woeful
The pigeons in the top of the stand scared stiff as ex-Wrexham man Anoruo hits a stinker well over. Also, was never a pen.
A bit of a lull
All a bit quiet at the minute. The wholesale changes haven’t helped matters.
Close for Marine
Cross headed wide at the far post by Billy Smart, under pressure from James Baillie.
Great hit
Bellew with a great strike. Ball comes across the area and finds him at an angle 12 yards out an he lashes it into the top corner.
Great save
Callum Byrne hits a sweet strike from 20 yards and Jones acrobatically tips over.
Chester changes
Newton, Waters, Reeves, Murray and Akintunde off. Exell, Muscat, Nevitt, Ellams and Mendes on
So, who is James Akintunde?
The Blues trialist has been excellent, proving a real poacher and also doing his bit in bringing other players into play.
A graduate of Cambridge United, Akintude was released at the end of the season but did have some successful loan spells with AFC Sudbury and Histon.
At 20, he’s very raw but is showing up really well today.
Half-time: Marine 1-5 Chester
After a slugglish start the game has exploded. Trialist James Akintunde has bagged himself a 10-minute hat-trick and will certainly have caught the eye of Jon McCarthy. Been really impressive.
A pretty impressive trial
Akintude receives Newton pass and beats the keeper to slide home. He’s having a blinder
Close!
Great ball in from the left from Waters finds Akintunde who can’t steer it past Cooper and fires wide. Good from Waters.
