Chester FC have brought in Sheffied United forward Jamie McDonagh on an initial one-month loan.

Belfast-born McDonagh, 19, impressed Steve Burr in an under-21s fixture with Hull City earlier this week and trained with the Blues squad on Thursday.

He can operate up front or out wide and will be available for the trip to National League leaders Forest Green Rovers on Saturday (3pm).

Burr said: "We've brought Jamie McDonagh in from Sheffield United who's a striker.

"He's only a young boy and a Northern Ireland international who will give us options up front which we need."

Northern Ireland under-19 international McDonagh had a successful loan spell at Evo-Stik League Premier Division outfit Matlock Town last season, scoring six goals in 15 starts.

He was with Portadown and Linfield in his homeland before moving to Brammall Lane in 2012.

McDonagh comes from a strong Manchester United supporting family, hence his middle name of Cantona.

Chester are aiming to complete two more signings before the weekend after Burr offered non-contract terms to a left-back and a midfielder.

Both are understood to have Football League experience and the deals should be finalised tomorrow.

"We're looking at a couple of non-contract players who will come in and bolster the squad," said Burr.

"We had a behind closed doors game on Tuesday and they showed up very well in that so all being well we'll be able to get them in and have a look at them."
