HIGHFIELD Athletic stand just 90 minutes away from getting their hands on the Chester Senior Cup after dumping Kelsall out in the semi-final 3-0.

On Wednesday, two goals from Paul Joyner set the ball rolling and Adam Langton confirmed it with the third for Highfield at the Cheshire County Sports Club.

Newton Bears were in league action, facing Castrol in the Queensferry Sports Premier Division, but they probably wished they weren’t as they lost 8-3. A hat-trick from Andrew Milne plus goals from Andy Crawford, Steve Finlay, Jack Shepard and Steve Morgan punished the Bears.

On Saturday, the semi-finals of the Cayzer Shield saw Sutton Way end City Bar’s hopes of glory. Steve Armitage scored once and James Watson twice as Sutton ran out 3-0 victors.

Chester Nomads 3rds also bid farewell to the competition as Parkgate booked their meeting with Sutton Way by beating them 4-1. Joe Haden, Adam Tinsley, Adam Marr and Joe Harvey inflicted the fatal wounds, with only Jack Delgado hitting back for Nomads.

In the Premier Division, Highfield Athletic eased to a 4-1 win over Duddon United. Gary Paptino, Simon Quinn, Paul Joyner and Adam Langton all found the net for the hosts.

Tarvin Athletic went down at home 1-0 to Chester Nomads 2nds thanks to a goal from Musti.

Kelsall also won, claiming a 1-0 triumph at Waggon and Horses.

In Olympic Trophies Division One, Highfield Athletic Reserves served up a late winner against Barrow Athletic.

Scott Broadbent scored twice for Athletic to make the score 2-2 and Scott Tasker popped up with a goal late on to snatch victory.

Woodlands ran riot in DevaWeb Services Division Two, beating Boughton Athletic 6-2. Leon Devonport bagged a brace and Simon McGrath, Steve Smith, Andy Weaver and Lee Chadwick completed the rout.

City Bar take on Highfield Athletic Reserves in the final of the Personnel in Europe Chester Challenge Cup at Christleton this evening (6.15pm). Admission is £2.
