Steve Burr reckons the opening 45 minutes of the 4-0 win against Lincoln City was the best Chester FC have played since he took charge.

His team blew the hapless Imps off the park and stormed into a 3-0 lead inside 25 minutes through John Rooney, Sean McConville and Ryan Higgins.

Lincoln, who had Todd Jordan and Alan Power sent-off, piled men behind the ball after that but the Blues got a fourth in the second-half through the outstanding Brad Abbott.

Burr said: "Let's no mistake about it, I hope Lincoln don't use the fact they were down to 10 men and then nine men because the first-half performance was as good as we've had here.

"Some of the attacking play was excellent and I was just disappointed that they did get people sent off because you can easily say 'well you've scored four against Lincoln and they're down to nine men' but with 10 men, 11 men and they could have had 12 men on the park in the first-half as far as I'm concerned.

"Our performance was excellent and some of the chances that we created we should have had more really but that's the type of football that gets me excited and it was a pleasure to watch."

Such was Chester's dominance, the manager admitted his only disappointment was that his team did not score more goals, although Lincoln's tactics had a part in that.

"I think what they did obviously when they went down to nine men they just sort of kept a bank at the back and as many bodies as they could in front and it just a bit of attack against defence and they were proving hard to break down," said Burr.

"I was willing for a fifth and a sixth but it didn't come, but it's 4-0 and another clean sheet as well, which is pleasing because that's the last three games now. I don't know where it's coming from but it's always pleasing not to concede."

Lincoln could have no real complaints over the red cards with Jordan dismissed for hauling down Oliver McBurnie when he was the last man and Power seeing red for a nasty foul on Craig Mahon.

Burr said: "The first one Ollie's turned him and he's the last man. I felt sorry for the lad as he's just come back into the side at Lincoln

"The second one I felt maybe a yellow although it was a tackle from behind and it could have been a lot worse on Craig and thankfully it wasn't."

Mahon was withdraw soon after and Gareth Roberts tweaked a hamstring but the manager expects both to be fit for the game at Welling United on Saturday (3pm).

"There was no need to take any risks and it was pleasing to get one or two lads on," said Burr.

"We were looking to get Hobby (Craig Hobson) some minutes and then Gareth had a tight hamstring so we had to put Charny (Kieran Charnock) on but both George (Thomson) and Kane (Richards) got in so that was pleasing and gave them some minutes under their belt."
