Chester FC might have to adopt a different approach for the weekend's visit to Braintree Town, says manager Steve Burr.

Braintree have experienced significant issues with the Cressing Road pitch over the past few seasons and have been forced to postpone a series of matches this term.

The Iron entertain Wrexham tonight after the pitch passed a precautionary inspection on Tuesday morning but with rain forecast for the next 48 hours and again later in the week the surface could have deteriorated again come Saturday.

That means Burr will consider whether a change in tactics is required to give his side the best chance of completing a league double over Braintree after beating them 1-0 on the opening afternoon of the season.

"It will be an awkward game," said Burr.

"They've had a few games called off this season there with the pitch and what have you but we'll get through it again this week and get ready for Saturday.

"We'll have to look and see what the best way of going about it is."

Chester drew 0-0 with Southport on Saturday to make it four league games without a win but the performance was an improvement on recent weeks.

Braintree lost 1-0 at Forest Green Rovers and have dropped to 12th on the ladder, although postponements mean Danny Cowley's side have games in hand on the teams above them.

Burr returned to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation at the weekend and could retain that system for the trip to Essex, however he remains on the lookout for a new striker to partner Ross Hannah so it would be no great surprise should he change his team again, particularly with the pitch unlikely to be suited to passing football.

"I thought on Saturday our shape looked good and that's nine times out of 10 how I've set teams up since I've been here and we created a number of chances but it wasn't to be with us not getting that winning goal," said Burr.

"It will be a different scenario on Saturday with the pitch being heavy so we'll have to look at that and it might just be a game where we have to battle through it."

Chester's last visit to Braintree was in August 2014 when a brace from Sean McConville and a Chris Iwelumo goal secured a 3-1 victory after Kenny Davis had put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot.
