Ex- Chester FC loanee Nyal Bell has signed for National League rivals Gateshead after leaving Rochdale.

The 19-year-old spent three months at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium last season having arrived in January , featuring four times.

Despite his limited opportunities, which included three substitute appearances in the league and two goals in a 4-0 win against Warrington Town in the Cheshire Senior Cup , the forward made a good impression during his spell with the Blues before being recalled at the end of April.

The Chronicle understands Chester were one of several clubs interested in signing him following his release from Spotland but Gateshead beat off the competition with the offer of a two-year deal.

Assistant manager Lee Nogan feels Bell can add another new dimension to the Heed's frontline.

"It’s pleasing to get another player through the door and to see the squad taking real shape," said Nogan.

"Nyal is a young, athletic striker who is prepared to work hard and willing to learn to go on to the next level.

"Again, he’ll give us something a little bit different to the other forwards we have at the club."

Manchester-born Bell progressed through Rochdale's academy and signed his first professional contract with Dale last summer.

His senior debut came as a substitute in a 1-0 win over Coventry City in September 2014, making three first-team appearances in total.

Bell also had a loan spell with Evo-Stik League outfit Droylsden.
