It was a disappointing weekend for Chester FC as visitors Woking departed the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium with the three points following a deserved 2-1 success.

However, the trio of players currently out on loan fared better with two wins and a valuable draw between them.

The Chronicle looks at how George Thomson, Sam Hughes and Tom Peers fared at the weekend:

Tom Peers

The Warrington-born striker opened his account for Salford City with the winning goal as the Ammies beat Stamford 1-0 at Moor Lane in front of 1,311 fans.

Having come off the bench in his two previous appearances, Peers was handed his first start, replacing the experienced Danny Webber.

The 20-year-old headed a half-chance wide on 26 minutes but made no mistake in the final minute of the first-half, latching on to Lewis Hardcastle's pass and sliding the ball past keeper Jonathan Hedge to make it 1-0.

Peers was replaced with Jordan Hulme on 59 minutes and Salford, who climbed to third in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division, held on for the three points.

Peers will be hoping to retain his starting place when the Ammies host Workington on Tuesday before going to Grantham Town on Saturday.

George Thomson

Thomson made his debut as FC United of Manchester halted a seven-game losing streak with a battling 2-2 draw at National League North leaders Nuneaton Town.

FC United weant ahead on 13 minutes through Tom Greaves and Thomson went close to doubling the lead on the half-hour when his free-kick clipped the crossbar.

Nuneaton did fall further behind soon after when Harry Winter headed home, but that sparked an impressive response from Boro.

Rob Duffy's header made it 2-1 on the hour mark and the same man levelled the contest with a penalty in stoppage time.

Next up for FC United is a Manchester Premier Cup tie with Stalybridge Celtic on Tuesday before an FA Trophy clash with AFC Telford United on Friday, although Thomson's role will depend on whether Chester allow him to feature in that competition.

Sam Hughes

Teenage midfielder Hughes helped Witton Albion end a run of six straight losses in the Evo-Stik League First Division North with a 2-1 win at Trafford.

Hughes remained on the field for the entire 90 minutes as Carl Macauley's men secured a vital three points to move them six points clear of the bottom two.

Chester-born forward Danny Andrews netted twice to put Witton 2-0 up at the break before Dimitri Tuanzebe replied for the hosts in the second-half.

Hughes was one of four teenagers in the Albion starting line-up, whose squad included ex-Chester pair Jamie Menagh and Alex Titchiner along with former youth team keeper Ryan Nield.

Hughes has now made five appearances for Witton, including four starts, and should keep his spot when Scarborough Athletic visit Wincham Park on Saturday.
