Steve Burr hopes for another memorable FA Cup campaign having taken Northwich Victoria and Kidderminster Harriers into the third round in previous seasons.

Chester, who are 13th in the Vanarama Conference following the 2-1 win over Alfreton Town on Saturday, take on Stockport County in the fourth qualifying round this weekend.

A win would secure them a place in the first round proper, £12,500 in prize money and a share of the gate receipts from an expected 4,000-plus crowd.

Burr said the club's hierarchy have told him that, should the Blues progress, some of that cash would be made available for squad strengthening.

Burr said: "It's a great competition and it's competition that I've been very fortunate as a player and as a manger to have very good moments in and I'd like that here at Chester aswell.

"If we can put a cup run together then I've been told that with the money we can generate we will perhaps be able to use some towards the team which would be good

"I'm looking forward to it and it's what dreams are made of for clubs like us to go and get through but we know how difficult it will be at Stockport.

"They'll be waiting the same thing and wanting to put some money in their bank but it will be a good atmosphere so we're looking forward to it."

Chester have not faced the Hatters since a goalless draw in April 2008 when both clubs were still in League Two.

Stockport were relegated from the Football League after 106 years in 2011 and dropped again at the end of the 2012-13 season.

Alan Lord's side are sixth in the Conference North this season and won 2-0 at Leamington on Saturday.

In 2006, Burr took Northwich to the third round, losing 3-0 at Sunderland in front of more than 19,000 fans.

He took Kidderminster to the same stage last season, drawing 0-0 with Peterborough United but he was sacked before the replay.
