Chester FC Academy have been awarded FA Charter Standard status

The club has been working towards the kitemark over the past few months and a formal presentation was made d uring the 2-1 win over FC Halifax Town on Saturday .

Paul Kelsall, senior football development officer at Cheshire FA, made the presentation of a plaque and certificate to directors Brian Burns and Mike Day, academy head coach Calum McIntyre and Steve Jones from the academy.

The FA Charter Standard programme recognises clubs and leagues that are well run, sustainable, which place child protection, quality coaching and safety paramount.

Criteria includes having a trained welfare officer, DBS checks for all volunteers, emergency aid-trained volunteers linked to each team, Respect programme sign-up, a Level One coach for each youth team, appropriate club administration in place and a volunteer co-ordinator.

Benefits include free tickets upon application for England youth and women’s internationals, coaching events, administration support sessions and support with funding applications.

Most important are the 'hidden' benefits as achieving FA Charter Standard status demonstrating to members, parents, sponsors and the public, that you are a well-organised, safe club offering opportunities for all.

The club has placed on record its thanks to Burns, Day and McIntyre, and academy volunteers Lynette and Steve Jones for their advice and support work in achieving the award.
