CHESTER slumped to a New Year's Day defeat against Cheshire rivals Northwich and had yet another player sent off.
Defender Wayne Hatswell was shown a red card for the second time this season following his second caution and left his team playing with 10 men for the last eight minutes of normal time.
By then, though, City were trailing after throwing away a 2-0 lead. Daryl Clare scored from a Ben Davies pass after 18 minutes and he looked to have secured a first-ever Conference victory over their county neighbours when he hit the second three minutes after the break.
Northwich pulled one back when Mark Devlin luckily deflected an Andy Taylor cross past Wayne Brown five minutes later and that was the end for City.
They went to pieces after that and two goals in as many minutes from Jimmy Quinn's penalty and a Greg Blundell strike gave them a massive New Year hangover made worse by Hatswell's late dismissal.
The players were locked in the dressing room for an hour after the game as manager Mark Wright conducted an inquest to find out how City managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in front of their biggest crowd of the season - 3,151.
