CHESTER City will this morning continue their preparations for tomorrow's FA Cup second round match against Bury at Gigg Lane.

City were encouraged by Wednesday night's 4-4 thriller against Coca-Cola League One side Chesterfield at Saltergate, with the Derbyshire side eventually progressing to the semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after winning a penalty shoot-out 3-1.

Chester chairman Stephen Vaughan said last night: "It was an excellent performance against a quality side from the division above us, and one thing that it does give us is confidence for the upcoming FA Cup tie at Bury.

City have already defeated the Shakers this season, Chester running out 3-1 winners in a league match at Gigg Lane in August thanks to goals from Roberto Martinez and two from Jon Walters.

Striker Gregg Blundell will miss tomorrow's game as he is serving a one-match suspension after accumulating five bookings this season, but City didn't pick up any fresh injuries from the match against Chesterfield.

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury Town and Chester have been charged by the Football Association following the melee that occurred after the final whistle at Gay Meadow last Saturday.

The clubs have been charged with "failing to ensure their players behaved in an orderly fashion".

Both clubs have until December 13 to respond to the charge. It is understood that Chester will welcome the opportunity to officially put their side of the story.

Shrewsbury's captain Sagi Burton was shown a straight red card by referee Lee Probert.
