GERARD HOULLIER and Rick Parry are joining forces once again and this time they are tasked with helping to transform the fortunes of Saudi Arabia.
The former Liverpool boss, who recently parted company with Aston Villa due to his health problems, and ex-Reds chief executive Parry have secured lucrative roles to produce a 10-year strategy to develop the infrastructure of the sport in the Arab nation.
They will be working with London-based consultants Threshold Sports with the target of improving the standard of the league and the performances of the Saudi side, who have slumped to 88th in the world.
“Football is hugely important to Saudi Arabia with every young man dreaming at some stage of becoming a professional player,” Parry said.
“This enthusiasm for the game is intensified by the fact that the World Cup is coming to the Arab states in 2022. We can expect the strategy to roll out over the next 10 years and start bearing fruit for the next generation of players.”
THE silly season is in full flow with Liverpool being linked with the world and its wife. My personal favourite this week was the “shock move” for John O'Shea. Yep, an average defender, the wrong side of 30 from the Reds’ greatest rivals. Ticks all the boxes!
