DEESIDE Dragons ’ losing run has continued - but they have been boosted by an exciting signing.
Scott McKenzie’s side have now lost their last four NIHL North 1 matches after going down 11-4 at home to Whitley Warriors on Sunday.
The Dragons twice came from behind to draw the opening period 2-2 with captain James Parsons setting up Alex Parry for their first equaliser before scoring the second himself, assisted by Markus Kankaanranta and player-coach McKenzie.
The Warriors netted four unanswered goals in a second period which was ended early after one of their players, Liam Brown, took a puck to the face.
The Dragons made a fight of it in the third period with Kankaanranta bagging a brace of goals after good work from man-of-the-match Parsons and then from Marc Lovell.
With 15 minutes to play the contest was very much alive.
But the Warriors hit back to notch the final four goals of the game to run out comfortable winners.
The Dragons will look to return to winning ways this Sunday when they welcome table-toppers Solway Sharks to Deeside Ice Rink (5.45pm).
McKenzie will have new boy Jacob Corson-Heron available for the first time after joining from Manchester Phoenix.
Corson-Heron has a wealth of English Premier League experience having iced for not only the Phoenix but also Milton Keynes Lightning and Basingstoke Bison.
With an impressive 309 EPL appearances under his belt, along with 24 goals and 28 assists, the forward will add considerable depth to an already strong Dragons line-up.
McKenzie said: “After our defeat to Sutton a few weeks back I was very disheartened with our performance but following the game I had a message from Jacob asking if I would have a spot for him.
“Naturally I jumped at the chance to get a player of his quality. We have had a few tough games recently so to be able to bring a player like Jacob in at this part of the season definitely gives us a lift as a hockey club.”
Corson-Heron, who has a time-consuming job and therefore cannot commit to all games for the Dragons, added: “It’s great to have signed for the Dragons.
“I initially agreed to play for Blackburn this year but due to work commitments it was unpractical for me. The Dragons play their home games on a Sunday which suits my work life a lot better.
“I have known Scott for a few years now and we spoke a little bit in the summer so he was my first call when I made my decision not to play for Blackburn.
“I look forward to helping the Dragons as much as I can and can’t wait to get started against Solway.”
